How to Navigate Your Wedding During COVID-19

This season brings a lot of uncertainty.

Feeling overwhelmed and wondering how to reschedule your celebration? Take a deep breath. I’m here to help you navigate these uncharted waters.

You’ve got this!

I’ve wanted to share some tips with you on how to manage this incredibly difficult decision of postponing your wedding day. I’ve done the research, I’ve connected with others in the wedding industry and I have already started the process of rescheduling with a few of my couples. I know this is probably the last thing you thought you were going to have to consider during these last exciting few weeks of wedding planning. But I want you to know it will be okay and we will get through this together.

First things first… Is your wedding date in the within the time frame that social distancing is in effect? Currently, we are on orders to shut down ALL non-essential businesses through April 30th (but that date may change). Keep up with all the changes in Illinois here.

If you do follow in the guideline restrictions, here are the next steps and things you should be thinking about.

  1. Postpone DON’T cancel. It’s as simple as that. The show must go on. :)

  2. Communicate with your vendors, First your venue for availability and then relay those dates to the rest of your vendors. I guarantee they will do everything in there power to make it work, because guess what… They are so excited to be apart of your wedding day!!

  3. Plan. Once you’ve gathered all the information from your vendors, discuss this with each other and make a backup plan together. I know these decisions are extremely difficult, but you have your partner to lean on and help you through this!

  4. Contracts. Review these and ask your vendors to update any changes that are made. All the vendors I’ve personally been communicating with have waived all rescheduling fees. We aren’t here to make things more difficult, most of us stepped into this industry to help you make your wedding day the Best. Freaking. Day. Ever.

  5. Update. Keep your guests in the loop. Send a pretty email update, update your wedding website, send out postponement postcards (check out some designs here!)

  6. Delegate. Create a to-do list for your bridesmaids and groomsmen to help with all of the daunting steps that go into rescheduling your wedding day. They are your tribe for a reason and will be so happy to help you through this (plus they are all probably needing something to do during all this time at home, am I right?!)

  7. Stay positive. Remember at the end of this you will be married to the love of your life, your guest will be ready to celebrate, and your vendors will make sure it happens without a hitch!

  8. Elope. If all else fails, your dates don’t end up matching with your vendors and all this these big wedding plans start to consume you, think about the possibility of eloping! An intimate ceremony with your loved ones or just the two of you on a mountain. There are some really special ways you can do this and your options are limitless.

A note to my couples,

We will figure this out. I know everything is up in the air, but I want you to feel at ease knowing that we will figure it out. If your plans need to change, we will make it work. If your big wedding plans need to become a small wedding... it WILL be beautiful. If you are toying with the ideas of city hall, or an elopement, I PROMISE you, it WILL be amazing. We got this. I can help you plan the most perfect, intimate, romantic, and FUN day. I promise…no matter what you decide, it will be special. Even if it doesn’t look exactly like what you imagined, you will be marrying your best friend.
